Don’t Look Back exhibition – UK

Zero Cool Gallery presents

RONE (AUS) & Tom French (UK)

‘Don’t Look Back’

Joint London Exhibition
Preview: 6:30pm – 9:30pm, 26th April 2012
Open: April 27th – May 1st 2012

RBHQ, 155-171 Tooley St
London Bridge, London

April 2012 will see two of the most exciting artist to emerge in recent year’s RONE (AUS) and Tom French (UK) link up to put on a joint show with Zero Cool Gallery.

Rone’s posters are some of the most iconic in Australia, hiding under overpasses throughout Melbourne. He is renowned for the stylised images of ‘girls’ faces – it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he has had more posters in Melbourne’s streets than any other artist in the city’s history.

Tom French progresses his distinctive skull images, with the addition of previously unseen oil paintings, to be shown alongside his characteristic charcoal pieces. These new works combine photorealism, abstraction and surrealism with a suggestive narrative, treading the fine line between the beautiful and the unsettling, focusing on the reflection of the conscious and subconscious mind.

Patrick Martinez – HUSTLEMANIA

Opening March 19, Known Gallery is pleased to present Hustlemania, a solo exhibition by Patrick Martinez. Based in Los Angeles, Martinez is a mixed media artist who uses everyday people and objects as his muses, revealing their beauty through his work. He blends harsh realities with doses of humor or fantasy, imbuing each piece with poignant social commentary.

The title of the show was inspired by a neon piece Martinez completed in 2008 titled “Selling Out is the New Keeping it Real,” which articulated Martinez’s thoughts about art and the economy at the time. “The recession was in full swing and people were desperate for money,” the artist says. “Everyone was on hustlemode—and still are. When I was creating in the studio, this concept kept coming up: the idea of the paper chase, chasing the dream and all that. When I started looking at the body of work as a whole, I saw that theme binding everything together as a cohesive collection.” Hustlemania will feature more than 20 new works, including large-scale paintings, sculpture and Martinez’s signature neon pieces. The exhibition showcases his breadth as an artist: from Martinez’s urban take on still life paintings—in which fruit baskets are replaced by 40 ounces and Cheetos—to the very personal portraits of his mother and father.

“This is my strongest solo show to date,” Martinez sums up. “I took my time, had fun, struggled and produced honest work at my own pace. I believe all of that will show at the gallery.”

Krink x G-Shock

Casio G-Shock presents a new collaboration with artist/entrepreneur Craig Costello, aka “KR”, founder of Krink (High quality art supplies). Unsatisfied with existing commercial art products and tools, KR revolutionized the art-supply market by hand-making his own inks and markers and offering them to artists worldwide. Krink products and aesthetics are now a mainstay for young artists globally from Moscow to Tokyo. Krink’s reputation for high quality is unsurpassed and the Krink brand has become synonymous with DIY culture. G-Shock has been an avid supporter of underground culture, so it was only fitting that they would join forces to create a collaborative timepiece, the DW6900KR-8. While staying true to the G-Shock toughness and technology, the DW6900KR-8 carries the tradition of Krink’s minimalist design aesthetic, the DW-6900KR-8 has a metallic matte silver finish (Casio pulled it out of it’s library especially for KR) and for the first time in G-Shock history, the watch will bare a full mirror face and LCD display. Craig also omitted all technical type from the inner ring on the face of the watch, making this piece the cleanest look G-Shock has ever produced. Each G-Shock x Krink timepiece has a custom-made “silver on silver” commemorative tin for its collectors.

“The new DW6900KR-8 watch is the epicenter of where art, fashion, and functionality intersect” said Shigenori Itoh, Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “The G-Shock x Krink collaboration allows our consumers the opportunity to indulge in aesthetically pleasing watches without compromising the G-Shock functionality.”

“Here at Krink, quality should never be compromised and is always worth the extra cost and effort” said Craig Costello a.k.a. Krink. “Casio mirrors the same philosophy regarding their G-Shock line of watches and it’s been a pleasure working with them on a solid product. G-Shock took the extra time to find the right finishes and subtle details that compliment this piece.”
